True North Offshore BV

Engineering the Way Forward
Bridging the gap between Structural Engineering and Offshore T&I.

About Us

We close the gap between theory and practice in the offshore industry. True North Offshore combines structural engineering with hands-on operational expertise. From complex heavy lift plans to jacket installations and method engineering: we ensure that what works on paper, works at sea.

  • Structural Engineering & Consultancy Calculations and design of steel structures, lifting tools, seafastening and grillages.

  • Fabrication Management Assessing fabricator suitability, monitoring planning and acting as Steel Work Package Manager.

  • Mobilization & Field Engineering On-site support during vessel mobilization and load-outs to ensure smooth operational readiness.

  • Transport & Installation (T&I) Support Method engineering, lift plans and on-board supervision during offshore installation campaigns.

The Team

Max van den BroekRole: Offshore Operations ManagerExpert in T&I, heavy lift, and on-site execution. He translates technical blueprints into reality in the harsh offshore environment.

Ronald van den AkkerRole: Lead Structural EngineerSpecialist in calculations, steel structures, and method engineering. He provides the solid theoretical foundation for every project.

Projects

Track record of our founders, before the start of True North Offshore.

Project Title: Triton Knoll – Monopile Installation

Role: Client Representative (Seaway 7)
Vessel: HLJV Innovation (DEME)
Location: British North Sea
The Scope:
The installation of monopile foundations and transition pieces for the Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm. A high-stakes heavy lift campaign executed by DEME’s heavy lift jack-up vessel Innovation.
Our Contribution:
Acting as the on-board Client Representative for Seaway 7, ensuring that the offshore execution aligned perfectly with the project requirements and safety standards.
Operational Oversight: Monitored daily installation activities to ensure compliance with approved Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS).Quality & Safety Assurance: Acted as the primary link between the client and the vessel crew, ensuring that every lift and installation met the strict quality and HSE criteria.Progress Reporting: Provided detailed daily reporting on progress, downtime, and technical challenges to the onshore project management team.

Project Title: Formosa 2 – Pin Pile Installation

Role: Field Engineers
Vessel: HLV Seaway Yudin
Location: Taiwan Strait
The Scope:
The installation of pin pile foundations for the Formosa 2 Offshore Wind Farm. A highly demanding heavy-lift campaign executed in the challenging waters of the Taiwan Strait aboard the Heavy Lift Vessel Seaway Yudin.
Our Contribution:
Both founders of True North Offshore were mobilized at short notice as Field Engineers to guide the execution phase on deck. We acted as the critical link between the onshore-developed engineering packages and the offshore construction crew.
Rapid Execution Support: We rapidly assimilated complex, pre-written installation manuals and Method Statements, translating them into practical, step-by-step guidance for the deck team to ensure the correct installation sequence.Hands-on Troubleshooting: Acting as the primary technical problem-solvers on deck. When the operational reality deviated from the paperwork, we provided immediate, on-the-spot troubleshooting to keep the piling operations running safely and efficiently.Fabrication & Welding Supervision: Oversaw on-board steel fabrication and welding activities, ensuring that all temporary works and sea-fastening modifications met the strict quality and structural standards required for the campaign.

Project Title: Seagreen Wind Farm – Jacket Installation

Role: Client Representative (Seaway 7)
Vessel: SSCV Saipem 7000
Location: Scottish North Sea
The Scope:
The installation of massive suction bucket jacket foundations for the Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm. A record-breaking deep-water campaign in the Scottish North Sea, executed by the world-class semi-submersible crane vessel Saipem 7000.
Our Contribution:
Acting as the on-board Client Representative for Seaway 7, safeguarding the client’s interests during highly complex heavy-lift and subsea installation operations.
Operational Oversight: Closely monitored the complete installation cycle, from the critical heavy lifting and splash-zone lowering to the final ROV-monitored suction penetration process, ensuring all works were performed exactly as planned.Compliance & Quality Assurance: Acted as the primary liaison between Seaway 7 and the vessel’s offshore management team. Verified that every installation step strictly adhered to the approved Method Statements, engineering tolerances, and high HSE standards.Real-Time Reporting & Coordination: Provided continuous, accurate progress updates to the onshore project management team and facilitated rapid, on-the-spot decision-making during critical operational windows to minimize downtime.

Project Title: Hollandse Kust Noord (HKN), Vessel Mobilization

Role: Technical Superintendent / Steelwork Package Manager (Van Oord)
Vessel: WTIV Seajacks Scylla
Location: Eemshaven / North Sea
The Scope:
The mobilization of the Wind Turbine Installation Vessel (WTIV) Seajacks Scylla for the Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind farm. The scope included outfitting the vessel with the required seafastening and grillage structures for the transport and installation of wind turbine components.
Our Contribution:
As Package Manager Steelwork, managing the temporary works and seafastening structures from the design phase to the installation on deck.
Design & Tender Support: Supported the engineering team during the design phase to ensure constructability, followed by managing the tendering process to select the fabricators for the steel structures.Fabrication Management: Oversaw the fabrication of the grillages and seafastening units at the construction yard. This included schedule monitoring and Quality Control (QC) to ensure structures were delivered on time and according to specification.Mobilization Execution: Acted as the link between the office engineering team and the vessel crew during the mobilization phase, ensuring the installation of the seafastening on deck proceeded safely.
